Nothing Comes from Nowhere

When it comes to timing and execution, boy do we have it. In preparation for her upcoming month long show at The Rat on Bull, Morgan let me wake her up early one morning, to invade her space and her mind for a few hours. Adler’s current body of work explores the nuances of masculinity, what it means to be in its presence, to not, and other obscurities and delectable narratives that pool out from the goopy paintings and ink on wet paper. There is a comfort (and a smirk) in not having the answers to all the questions. “Why” is now “Why not?” I’ve learned to ask questions but to not expect answers in Adler’s work. What can be deduced may not require inquisition. In the soft July morning light of Savannah, we explore together Adler’s studio in flux, in glory, in learning. —ES August 2019
